How Do I Know If My Computer Is Ready for eLearning?

 

The great thing about web-based e-learning is that it is accessible to anyone with an internet connection. If you are able to view this website, then you will most likely have no problems accessing our e-learning courses. That said, the interactive, multimedia nature of Web 2.0 e-learning means that there are some minimum requirements for accessing Learning Management Systems and e-learning courses.

Recommended Minimum System Requirements:

  • Processor: Pentium 4 or higher 1Ghz Processor (PC) / G3 Processor (Mac)
  • Memory: 128MB (PC) / 256MB (Mac)
  • Internet Connection: High-speed internet connection via web browser
  • Video: 1024x768, 16-bit Colour
  • Audio: Audio Card with speakers or headphones.
  • Operating System:
    • Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
    • Mac OS 10.4 or newer
    • Linux OS
  • Web Browser:
    • Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer (PC Only)
    • Mozilla Firefox (PC Only)
    • Safari 4.0 or newer (Mac or PC)
  • Browser Options:
    • Your browser must have the following options enabled: browser caching, active scripting, scripting of Java applets, meta refresh (IE6), java console, accept cookies.
  • Pop-ups:
    • If you have a pop-up blocker enabled on your browser, you must set it to accept pop-ups from SkillSpark sites (i.e. those ending in .skillspark.net), or your courses will fail to launch.
  • Plug-ins/Add-ons:
    • Your computer and browser must have the following add-ons installed in order to access all course features: Flash 7.0 or newer, Adobe Reader 7.0 or newer, Java Runtime Environment.
